# Fintech Star Square to Fill GC Opening, Tapping Into Flush Hiring Market

[Sean Burke](https://www.whistlerpartners.com/team/sean-burke) and [Kathleen Mon](https://www.whistlerpartners.com/team/kathleen-mon) spoke to Hugo Guzman at Corporate Counsel this week about Square's search for a new General Counsel and what it means for the fintech in-house hiring market. Kathleen highlighted that now is an ideal time for employers to hire experienced legal talent, while Sean emphasized how fintech is no longer in its infancy so attorneys in the space need to truly be experts.

“You need to be a real player to have credibility in this space,” Burke said. “Law firm partners who just add ‘blockchain’ to the bottom of their website bio [will be] discounted.”
