Job Overview

The role of Senior Counsel, Global Laboratory Operations, involves providing comprehensive legal support for global laboratory and international activities. The successful candidate will be expected to rapidly develop an in-depth understanding of the business and operations on a global scale. Responsibilities include advising on operational compliance, labor, and commercial issues related to diagnostics laboratories operations, as well as aiding in international expansion endeavors. This position involves negotiating and drafting complex commercial agreements, and providing guidance on international operations.

 

Key Responsibilities
  1. Serve as a legal advisor to the global lab operations team, aiding in strategic decision-making and shaping company policies.
  2. Identify and mitigate legal risks linked to lab operations.
  3. Draft and review agreements and policies pertaining to lab operations and vendor relationships.
  4. Be responsible for informing the company's strategic decisions and developing policies and practices related to HR operations and employee relations.
  5. Offer expertise on legal compliance regarding operational issues.
  6. Develop and implement a compliance playbook for international expansion and ongoing operations.
  7. Oversee global employment law projects in collaboration with regional teams and local counsel.
  8. Create and deliver training programs to ensure legal compliance in our laboratories.
  9. Assess risks and prerequisites for entering new jurisdictions, informing decisions about the prioritization and timing of entry, and monitoring changes in the law to ensure ongoing compliance in those countries.
  10. Manage local counsel in several jurisdictions to secure clear, actionable advice in an efficient and cost effective manner.
  11. Stay up-to-date with changes in laws and regulations in various jurisdictions.


About You
  1. You have a U.S. JD or LLM, with at least 7 years of relevant legal experience, including in-house, preferably in a healthcare or regulated industry.
  2. You have extensive knowledge of global employment laws and regulations.
  3. You have proven experience in supporting international growth, including assessing regulatory and legal requirements and developing a plan for execution.
  4. You have exceptional communication skills across all channels, with the ability to articulate complex legal issues effectively in both ad-hoc and formal environments.
  5. You have demonstrated ability in managing complex projects and working with cross-functional teams.
  6. You are astute at defining an agenda and ensuring timely completion with exceptional judgment, practicality, resourcefulness, proactivity, and attention to detail.
  7. You have experience in launching operations, products, and business lines internationally.
  8. You have a global mindset and cultural sensitivity.
  9. You have the ability to influence strategic decisions outside of the legal domain.
  10. You have multilingual abilities, with German being a plus.
  11. You are admitted to practice law in New York or Colorado.
