Job Overview

This is a great opportunity for a talented media/content/entertainment lawyer with 10+ years of combined experience at both high-end law firm(s) and in-house. Perfect for a current DGC/AGC or VP, business & legal affairs with experience as a proven manager to step up and grow alongside the company as a resourceful first-time GC. You’ll work and collaborate with other top-tier entrepreneurial/entertainment industry leaders to scale the business into its next chapter. 

 

Key Responsibilities

As General Counsel leading a small team, you’ll optimize the company’s full stack legal function across products and business lines with a mix of hands-on direct contribution, team support, outside counsel expertise, and technology resources. You’ll work closely with the CEO, COO, CFO and other key executives to negotiate and execute strategic partnerships with tech and content companies at the center of the creator, music or culture economy.

  1. Optimize the company's legal function across products and business lines.
  2. Provide hands-on direct contributions to legal matters.
  3. Support and lead a small legal team effectively.
  4. Collaborate with outside counsel and manage external legal resources.
  5. Utilize technology resources to enhance the legal function.
  6. Work closely with the CEO, COO, CFO, and other key executives.
  7. Negotiate and execute strategic partnerships with tech and content companies.
  8. Focus on areas central to the creator, music, or culture economy.
 
About You

Non-negotiable

  1. You have 10+ years of relevant experience as a practicing attorney, including working with brands, artists, streaming services, and other media outlets on industry-relevant commercial and product licensing contracts.
  2. You have general corporate, regulatory and policy experience.
  3. You have startup friendly DNA. It should come naturally for you to roll up your sleeves and be hands on, scrappy in a resourceful/creative way without compromising quality and caliber of work. You’re a business partner that can facilitate and lubricate high growth smoothly over the next few years.
  4. You are sharp and smooth. You’re able to pick up, understand and navigate a complex multi-faceted tech-enabled business through all aspects of risk management, with the gravitas and poise to hold their own in rooms with literal and figurative rockstars at the top of their respective games.
  5. You have a J.D. degree from an accredited law school and admitted to or otherwise qualified to practice in the state of New York. 

Bonus points

  1. You have tech product & brand marketing compliance experience (strongly preferred). 
  2. You have privacy expertise (strong plus).
  3. You have international experience: multiple international locations already, and more expansion this year.
  4. You have HR, labor & employment, exec comp experience - you’ll be partnering with the People team as our company grows.
  5. You have M&A/financing corporate transactions experience.
