About the Role:
Addresses a broad array of legal matters to support the Company’s Commercial, Corporate Affairs, and Medical Affairs functions. Works closely with other members of the Legal Department and their respective clients to address legal issues across several disciplines. Counsels clients and drafts and negotiates complex commercial arrangements. Advises and trains business clients on contract requirements.
Responsibilities:

- Identification of inventions, patent drafting, and prosecution relating to biologics and gene therapy
- Conducting strategic IP due diligence, including analyzing the patent portfolios of the Company’s competitors and potential collaborators
- Identifying opportunities for expanding the Company’s IP position and collaborating with members of various discovery, development and business groups within the Company
- Working and communicating with collaborators and other external strategic partners in connection with developing a global IP strategy
- Reviewing and negotiating license agreements and IP clauses in other agreements
- Supporting preparation for Biosimilars, and other patent litigation support
- Managing outside legal counsel globally
- Other duties as assigned
About You:
- PhD in genetics, immunology, biochemistry, virology or related discipline preferred OR
- Master's degree in genetics, immunology, biochemistry, virology or related discipline required and
- Juris Doctorate (JD) and admission to practice in California preferred and 10+ years of IP experience with significant in-house and/or law firm patent experience related to biologics and/or gene therapy. Registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office required
- A broad range of patent-related legal expertise required, including in patent preparation, both U.S. and foreign prosecution, IP due diligence, and strategic counseling
- Expertise in IP litigation and the aspects of regulatory affairs related to market exclusivity
- Ability to independently oversee legal matters, manage the use of outside legal counsel and work collaboratively with other personnel at Neurocrine
- Ability to set aggressive deadlines, handle multiple complex legal matters and see projects through to conclusion
- Recognized external expert in a strategic job function
- Requires broad and comprehensive expertise in leading-edge theories and techniques within a strategic job function
- Applies ingenuity and creativity to problem analysis and resolution in complicated and/or novel situations
- Influences internal/external business and/or industry issues that have an impact on Neurocrine
- Ability to drive strategic direction into tactical plans
