HIPAA, HIPAA, Hooray!

Associate Counsel @ Digital Health Platform

United States [Remote]
$180,000-$210,000
About the Company

Ever had a healthcare experience that felt like the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing? The founders of this consumer-facing digital health startup believe that patients deserve better, so they created a tech platform where patients can chat with a nurse, book an appointment with a specialist, and get expert advice from a pharmacist, all in one place. It's the seamless kind of care that was once reserved for the families of doctors.

About this Role

As their Associate Counsel, you'll report directly to the General Counsel, providing commercial-minded strategic and scalable solutions to legal issues. This is a startup, so you'll wear many hats - from reviewing contracts of the many healthcare organizations that they partner with, to managing systems and processes, to handling the day-to-day legal needs of a growing company.

Responsibilities
  • Contract management, including leading all aspects of the contract lifecycle from drafting, negotiation to execution
Identify and evaluate business, regulatory, and legal risks and partner with business teams to find creative solutions to mitigate those risks
  • Draft and negotiate a wide range of agreements, including strategic partnerships, vendor and client agreements
Establish organization-wide, scalable processes for contracting, compliance and risk management
  • Advise on all legal, regulatory and compliance operations across business verticals
  • Undertake special projects and investigations, and support legal and compliance program initiatives
  • Coordinate and advise on matters regarding employment, insurance, M&A, taxes, litigation, corporate transactions, security, IT & real estate
  • Perform other assignments, strategic projects, or duties as needed

About You
  • 6+ years of legal experience, either at a law firm, in-house (or preferably, a combination of both)
  • Strong transactional legal experience (tech transactions, commercial contracts, M&A....)
  • Experience in the healthcare or healthtech industry is a plus
  • Strong business-acumen - it's more important that you can deliver sound and decisive advice to your colleagues than it is that you made law review
  • Roll-up-your sleeves attitude with a readiness to wear multiple hats (sorry for the mixed metaphors)
  • Caring and driven by making healthcare better for everyone
