ECVC Associate @ Leading Technology Law Firm

Written by Greater New York Area | Aug 31, 2026, 9:03:58 PM

Overview

Whistler Partners is working with one of the country’s leading Emerging Companies & Venture Capital practices looking to add associates across New York, Los Angeles, and the Bay Area.

The practice is hiring across levels, with the biggest need from mid-level through senior associate.

This is a true ECVC practice. The work centers on startups, founders, emerging companies, venture financings, and the broader corporate needs of high-growth technology companies as they scale.

Strong ECVC lawyers are the obvious fit, but the firm is also open to candidates from smaller startup-focused practices who have substantive reps and meaningful deal responsibility. For the right corporate/M&A lawyer, there may also be an opportunity to retool into ECVC if the background and story make sense.

Why This Role?

The client work is a major part of the pitch.

The practice represents sophisticated venture-backed technology companies, including major AI unicorn clients, as well as companies operating across other fast-growing sectors.

For junior and mid-level lawyers, this is an opportunity to build real ECVC reps alongside a strong team and sophisticated client base.

For more senior associates, the opportunity is about ownership.

Can you run deals? Work directly with founders and executives? Manage the process, supervise junior lawyers, coordinate specialists, and keep transactions moving without constant supervision?

That is especially valuable here.

There is also real long-term runway for senior lawyers who want to stay in private practice, including a legitimate opportunity to work toward partnership. Counsel and other long-term paths may also make sense depending on the candidate and career goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent startups, founders, emerging companies, and investors.
  • Advise on venture financings and related corporate transactions.
  • Counsel clients on governance and general corporate matters.
  • Draft and negotiate financing and corporate transaction documents.
  • Work directly with founders, executives, investors, and other stakeholders.
  • Take increasing ownership of transactions and client relationships as seniority increases.
  • Coordinate with specialists across relevant practice areas.
  • Mentor and supervise junior associates at the senior levels.

About You

  • Corporate associate with substantive ECVC experience.
  • Experience representing startups, founders, emerging companies, or venture investors.
  • Strong venture financing and general corporate experience.
  • Candidates from both leading national firms and smaller startup-focused practices will be considered.
  • Junior lawyers should have a strong foundation and genuine interest in building an ECVC practice.
  • Mid-level and senior candidates should have increasing responsibility for transactions and client relationships.
  • Senior associates who can independently run significant portions of deals are particularly attractive.
  • Strong corporate/M&A lawyers may be considered for selective retool opportunities, particularly where there is existing technology, growth-company, startup, or entrepreneurial exposure.
  • Genuine interest in emerging companies and venture capital as a primary practice.

TL;DR

Leading ECVC practice hiring across levels in New York, Los Angeles, and the Bay Area, with the biggest need from mid-level through senior associate.

Startups. Founders. Venture financings. Major AI unicorn clients.

Strong ECVC lawyers from both major firms and smaller practices are in play. Selective corporate/M&A retools may also be possible.

And for senior lawyers who want to stay in private practice, there is real long-term runway, including partnership opportunity.

About Whistler Partners

Matchmakers, Not Headhunters

Whistler Partners is a boutique matchmaking firm focused on counseling the best and the brightest attorneys over the course of their careers. We believe that the right move comes from working closely with talent to curate their long-term career paths. When it comes to career advice, what matters is not the size of the agency but the strength of your individual recruiter. We readily admit that we are elite and only work with the best – after all, a little elitism is okay when it comes to your career.

Employers love us because we are picky about whom we represent, and attorneys love us because we get them their dream jobs.
